Mobrehap®: a success story for a mobile rehabilitation solution!

“The Mobrehap® is a success story for an innovative concept solution composed of three medical devices those are TENS, Heating Pad, and Therapeutic Ultrasound used often in clinical rehabilitation. However these three innovative devices are very different from traditional devices on clinical usage. In general, if suffered pain and injury during exercises, we usually go to the physiotherapy clinic to ask for help. We all know rehabilitation is not for one-day or two-day works, but a long-term process. Sometimes it may take one month or even two months to recovery the injury part to normal, for a busy worker, he or she does not have time to go to clinic to do the therapy process. Under such condition, the rehabilitation result will not be as good as doctor’s expectation. The creation of Mobrehap® is a hope for people with sore muscles or pains of hand, leg, and shoulder. The Mobrehap® is with high performance, efficient, and affordable. Due to its connection with mobile phone, it can be used any time any where!”

TENS introduction:
TENS units work by delivering gentle and harmless waves of electrical impulses into or around a significantly sore area. The dose of safe and pain-free electrical current works to block pain receptors from sending signals back and forth which signify your bodies need to feel pain. Some medical professionals also believe that Transcutaneouse Electrical Nerve Stimulation works to create chemicals in the body to calm the pain felt from past injuries. TENS is a non-invasive tool to assist with pain relief. Regular application of the TENs machine can result in reduced pain for up to 4 hours following use. TENs is considered a pain relief tool and not considered curative.

The electrical current treatment is delivered through the use of electrodes which are placed onto your body with sticky pads. These pads are to be placed around the painful area, so that each dose of electrical current can go through the skin to the muscle and thoroughly deliver this type of pain relief to your body. TENS can be used on your shoulder, back, knees, and a variety of other body parts which frequently suffer from sports and other activity related injuries.

What Time Duration Should You Use a TENS Machine?
The following settings are recommended:
Acute pain 20 to 60min up to four times daily
Chronic pain – 20 to 30min up to five times weekly

How Often Should You Use Your TENS Machine?
You can safely use a TENS machine as often as you like. Usually for 30-60 minutes up to 4 times daily.

TENS can provide relief for up to four hours.

Application of electrodes positioning
The electrodes are self adhesive; discontinue treatment if the resident develops a skin irritation following treatment.

The electrodes are normally positioned over the area of pain but other more advanced applications may often prove better. Please consult with physiotherapist for initial set up of electrode positioning for the first time use.

Heating Pad
Heat therapy, also called thermotherapy, is the use of heat in therapy, such as for pain relief and health. It can take the form of a hot cloth, hot water bottle, ultrasound, heating pad, whirlpool baths, cordless FIR heat therapy wraps, and others. It can be beneficial to those with arthritis and stiff muscles and injuries to the deep tissue of the skin. Heat may be an effective self-care treatment for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

Heat therapy is most commonly used for rehabilitation purposes. The therapeutic effects of heat include increasing the extensibility of collagen tissues; decreasing joint stiffness; reducing pain; relieving muscle spasms; reducing inflammation, and increasing blood flow. The increased blood flow to the affected area provides proteins, nutrients, and oxygen for better healing, then it will recover to normal fast.

Moist heat therapy has been believed to be more effective at warming tissues than dry heat, because water transfers heat more quickly than air. Clinical studies do not support the popular belief that moist heat is more effective than dry heat. Moist heat results in the perception that the tissue is heated more deeply. In fact, recent studies indicate that vasodilatation, the expansion of the blood capillaries (vessels) to allow more blood flow, is improved with dry heat therapy. Expansion of the blood capillaries is the primary objective of heat therapy. Heat therapy increases the effect on muscles, joints, and soft tissue. Heat is typically applied by placing a warming device on the relevant body part. Heat creates higher tissue temperatures, which produces vasodilatation that increases the supply of oxygen and nutrients and the elimination of carbon dioxide and metabolic waste.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by physical therapists since the 1940s. Ultrasound is applied using a probe that is put in direct contact with the patient’s skin. Ultrasound gel is used on all surfaces of the head in order to reduce friction and assist in the transmission of the ultrasonic waves. Therapeutic ultrasound is in the frequency range of about 0.8-3.0 MHz.

The waves are generated by a piezoelectric effect caused by the vibration of crystals within the head of the probe. The sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues. This vibration or cavitations can cause a deep heating locally though usually no sensation of heat will be felt by the patient. In situations where a heating effect is not desirable, such as a fresh injury with acute inflammation, the ultrasound can be pulsed rather than continuously transmitted.

Ultrasound can produce many effects other than just the potential heating effect. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect. A greater power density (measured in watt/cm2 is often used in cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal.
